Ricochet has been pushing the sound of broken tech since 2007, beginning as an outlet for Lifecycle to develop less commercial fringes of the breakbeat scene. The 40 releases since have sidestepped trends, focused on deep, unexplored overlaps with electronica and techno.
Lifecycle first released in the mid ’00s with vinyl on LondonBreakz, Electrofly and Loöq before setting up the label, with a quality over quantity approach that has attracted contributions from legendary producers including Si Begg, Al Tourettes, Luke Chable, Rennie Foster, Lory D, Decoder, iLS, Mesak, Ochre, Paul Blackford, Blackmass Plastics – and broken new artists such as James Shinra, Kawatin and Ion Driver.

“When starting Ricochet I wanted a similar feel to some of the great drum’n’bass labels of the time … if you saw them in a record rack it guaranteed a few things … first, the speed (back in the age of vinyl that was essential), though that’s more than just tempo – you’d have an idea of the intensity, the mood, the sonic signature … then within that framework the serious labels would let their artists absolutely hammer the boundaries … do something fresh, express themselves, overrule the label core with their personality … for Loose Lips I wanted to channel that initial seed, so I dug through the back catalogue for the most DJ-friendly stuff (lots from the early years, as later things started to get weird … more electronica, less certainty, moving away from 130bpm) and went in hard on the decks … channelled my inner junglist and got messy with the cuts … this is how I hoped people would feel comfortable mixing Ricochet, and was a pleasure to showcase our sound in that spirit … thanks for listening.:
