Our 104th edition of the Loose Lips mix series is one of our most intriguing - its entitled ‘memory - a listening experience’.
This mix is a continuation of Matt Burnett’s audio experiments with listening objects and listening experiences. The listening objects for this mix are taken from a variety of sources, such as the XSL remix project curated by Thalmus Labs in Berlin, feedback experiments recorded in Austin, CatX, and a collection of family phonographs recorded in the early 1940’s.

Matt Burnett lives in Berlin, Germany. Presently his interests centre on the musicality of textured sound, and the composition and performance possibilities presented by the quadraphonic listening space (see link below). Prior to moving to Berlin, he lived in Austin, Texas, where among many other music things he created and curated a quadraphonic multimedia event series titled Immersion (see link below).
He studied Electronic Music and Composition at Virginia Commonwealth University, graduating with Honours. He then studied at the Center for Contemporary Music at Mills College with Maggi Payne and Anthony Braxton. He has also worked odd jobs in software development and television.
In the US, he has done things with sound in San Francisco, California; Richmond, Virginia; Washington, DC; and Austin, Texas. In Europe he has performed at several venues in Berlin, and also in Slovenia, Denmark, France and Italy. Some of this is documented at these links.
He is the developer of The QuadTool, a software system that provides the basis for synthesis, composition and performance within the quad listening space (see link below).
He is always interested in performance, publishing, and collaboration opportunities.
